Cloudflare Launches 'Extraction Models' That Don't Hallucinate
Cloudflare introduced Clairic, which it calls a new 'System One' class of extraction model. Rather than generating tokens like a typical LLM, it extracts, computes, estimates or forecasts values directly from unstructured input, and attaches confidence scores to its outputs. Cloudflare says this architecture can't produce a mistyped or hallucinated answer in the way text-generating models can, though it can still be wrong.
Why it matters
๐ป Developer ยท If you're building pipelines that pull structured values out of messy text, this is a narrower but potentially more reliable tool than a general LLM.
๐ฆ Product ยท Confidence scores on extracted values could simplify building trust into data-heavy AI features without extra guardrail engineering.
๐จ Design ยท A model that returns a number with a confidence score, not prose, is a different UI problem than chatbots, think dashboards not chat windows.
๐ Business ยท Lower hallucination risk on data extraction tasks could matter for compliance-sensitive use cases like finance or insurance.
๐ค Just Curious ยท Not every new AI model talks back in sentences. This one just pulls out the number you asked for, with a confidence rating attached.
