Perplexity launches Portable Computer: fully local AI agents with zero cloud costs
Perplexity released Portable Computer, an agentic platform that runs entirely on local hardware with no cloud dependencies or token billing. Tasks default to running on-device; the system asks permission before offloading individual steps to cloud models. The feature is available for Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro, and Enterprise Max subscribers on Linux (Windows coming September). Users need an RTX GPU with at least 24GB VRAM. All model weights, data, and conversation history stay local by default.
